How to Choose a Professional Photographer

Whether you’re engaged, married, preparing for a baby, or looking for some new updated photos of yourself, choosing a photographer can be overwhelming. Does it really matter, or will anyone with a camera do? If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions, I want to break it down so you can know how to choose a professional photographer. After all, you’re finding someone to authentically capture your memories.

Find a photographer you know and love

Take time to follow your photographer on social media, read their blog, and really get to know them. Unless you’re a professional model, standing in front of a camera is likely to feel a little intimidating and uncomfortable. Doing something vulnerable is always easier with a friend, so find someone whose work and personality appeal to you.

Look for someone who will walk through the process with you

It can be overwhelming to put together a photo session. Choosing a date, time, location, and outfits can be overwhelming so why do it alone? When you hire a photographer to capture your memories you’re not just paying for someone to stand there with a camera. You’re choosing to work with an expert who will provide education and a listening ear to create a session and images that you will cherish forever. You want to choose a photographer who specializes in client education to empower you and answer questions you didn’t know you had. Client education is my favorite part of preparing for a session! It’s my goal to help you every step of the way so you can feel confident showing up at your session.

You can see yourself in their images

You want a photographer you trust and can feel confident will provide you the images you’re looking for. Each photographer has their own style of posing and editing. Do you get excited to see their new work? While scrolling through their feed or blog do their images make you say, “I want that!”? If so, you’re in the right place.
