I cannot believe it is already the middle of October. This year has flown by. After this week’s storm, the mountains outside my window are dotted with bright red and yellow trees. Whether I am ready for it or not, the seasons are changing.
When I was chatting with Alexis about what she envisioned for her senior session, she shared her love of flowers. She is planning to study horticulture in college and wanted a setting that reflected her love of all things botanical. A request for a garden senior session with plenty of flowers? Sign me up! The only challenge was that our date landed right at the beginning of October.
Utah has been stunning this fall. There is no shortage of places to find colorful leaves. However, gardens full of blossoms are harder to come by this late in the season. We talked through a few locations, and we landed on the perfect one. A gorgeous garden with special meaning to her. It felt like a natural extension of her story.
It was such a joy walking through the paths with her. Every time we turned a corner, she would point out her favorite parts of the garden and explain why she loved them. I loved watching her light up over something she truly loves! I am always looking for plants I can add to my yard and I was blown away by Alexis’s skills and knowledge! Working for a local garden has clearly given her a trick or two. I left with a long list of ideas and a good sense of who I will be asking for help when I eventually redesign my yard.
When she stepped out of the car with a stack of beautiful books, I knew we were going to have even more fun. I love when seniors bring meaningful items with them, and incorporating her love of reading felt so natural. Casually flipping through classic literature in a quiet corner of the garden turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the session. We talked about poetry, Little Women, and a few titles I now need to add to my own list.
Alexis, you made my job easy! Thank you for exploring the gardens with me, sharing your passions, and bringing so much heart into your session. I hope your senior year is everything you are dreaming of, and I cannot wait to see the gardens you will influence in the future.
