The Thomson family knows how to have fun. From their ability to laugh with one another, make silly faces, and play together, their joy is contagious. From movies to pinball games (they have even more than I do!) to joke telling, you can always tell they’re laughing and finding new ways to have fun.
I loved asking their three kids what their favorite pinball machines were (not something you can ask just any kid!) and hearing their quick answers: Godzilla, Stranger Things, and Deadpool, if you’re curious. That easy confidence, that spark of shared interests, reminded me of my own family and how connection often shows up in the simplest moments.
When we let the kids run off to explore, I turned my camera to just Mom and Dad. It’s always my favorite part of a session, watching a couple’s love mature and deepened through the years. Their playful energy evident. It’s not every day I get a request for photos of each giving the other a piggyback ride!
What I loved most though, was how all three kids naturally snuggled up together for photos. They were full of energy, but when it came time to be close, they leaned in, heads resting against each other without prompting. That’s connection. That’s love that is visible.
Thomson family, I’m so grateful you made time for updated photos and that I finally got to meet all of you in person. Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do: capturing laughter, tenderness, and all the in-between moments that tell the real story.
And whether it’s a family full of laughter, a couple just beginning their story, or a senior stepping into a new season, connection is what I’ll always love most about photography.
