I have known Ty for a long time, so getting to photograph his senior session felt especially meaningful. When he asked me to take his Daybreak senior photos, I was excited for the chance to celebrate this milestone with him before the rush of graduation season begins.
He was cool back when he was eight, and he’s even cooler now.
For his session we headed over to Daybreak so we could take advantage of the variety it offers. Daybreak is one of my favorite places for senior photos because it allows us to move between several different looks without ever leaving the area.
While we didn’t get to keep the sunny blue skies and warm weather from the week before, we did get lucky in another way. Daybreak was unusually quiet that evening, which meant we practically had the entire place to ourselves.
Being in front of a camera by yourself can feel a little uncomfortable, but Ty jumped right in. He followed direction perfectly and was up for anything we tried. I assured him I’d let him know if he ever looked dumb. He never did. Because he came prepared, we were able to move quickly between locations and pack a lot into our time together.
Preparation makes a huge difference in a session like this. When Ty booked, I sent over everything he needed to know about what photographs well so he could start thinking about outfits with confidence. He asked thoughtful questions about what would look best on camera and arrived ready to go.
The result was a session that flowed easily from one spot to the next.
We walked the trails, stopped along the lake, and took advantage of the bridges and open areas nearby. In between photos we talked, caught up, and shared more than a few cheesy jokes along the way. (I promised him I would before we started.) Keeping the conversation going helps sessions feel natural, and before long the camera just becomes part of the experience.
Ty brought a great mix of responsibility, humor, and willingness to try whatever I suggested. That kind of attitude makes a session fun and easy.
It was also fun to hear more about what is coming next for him. After graduation, Ty plans to continue to pursue firefighting. It’s an exciting path, and knowing him, it suits him well.
I have no doubt he will take on whatever challenges come his way.
My hope is that when Ty looks back at these photos years from now, he sees exactly who he was in this moment. Confident, capable, and ready for whatever comes next.
And for his parents, I hope these images serve as a reminder of this season too. A moment to pause and see the young man standing in front of them now and feel proud of the incredible young man they raised.
Ty, it was an honor to celebrate this milestone with you. I cannot wait to see where the future takes you.
