There’s nothing quite like the winter chill letting up and the spring sun warming the earth. Spring has always been a favorite of mine. What looked dead and dreary is now popping with color and new life. Naturally, photoshoots during the spring are among some of my favorites! Spending time with Drew & McKenna during their springtime family session at Highland Glen Park has been a highlight of the season.
I’ve had the immense pleasure getting to photograph Drew and McKenna the past few years. From dating (some of my all time favorite images), to their surprise engagement, and now with their sweet little boy. It is the greatest honor to get to capture the best moments in people’s lives.
Due to some intense rainstorms sweeping through the state we prepared for our session to be overcast. However, when we arrived, the clouds parted. Though chilly, we got to enjoy clear blue skies and sunshine. It seemed like everyone in the valley had the same idea to get out and savor it while it lasted. We walked alongside groups attending Prom, families riding bikes along the trails, and kids fishing it the pond.
Walking away a little bit from the groups of people we came to a clearing in the trail. The sun shining beautifully through the new growth. Here we walk, laugh, and I see the joy these two have being parents. Like any one year old, their sweet boy is independent, yet yearning for a loving hand. Cautious in a new environment, and always up for an adventure. Especially if it involves running, a playground, or dirt!
Drew and McKenna, thank you for letting me capture your beautiful family exactly how it is right now. The dirt, the potato bugs, the spinning on the playground. The love and the laughter. Through the coming years there may be less dirt and bugs, but I know the joy and love that you all share will remain.
