An Evening of Fall Family Photos in Provo, Utah

“Jodi, did you bring more jokes this year?”

During our last session together, I brought little slips of paper with jokes on them. Apparently, that made quite an impression, because one of the first things the kids wanted to know this year was whether I had brought more.

I hadn’t. But I knew they had plenty of jokes of their own. I told them it was their turn to make me laugh.

And they did not disappoint.

My favorite was the construction joke.

“Hey, Jodi, do you want to hear a construction joke?”

“Absolutely I do!!”

“I’m still working on it.”

Kid jokes are the best. The delivery, the anticipation, the way they can barely contain themselves waiting to get to the punchline. I love getting to play with these kids, hear all their updates, and find out what’s new and exciting in their lives. After photographing them for so many years, we’ve found a rhythm that makes our time together easy. Everyone knows what to expect, things move fluidly, and we get to have more time enjoying ourselves.

Which is even more enjoyable when we’re working with the last really warm weekend of the year! I was so excited to have one more beautiful evening outside before the temperatures drop. Warm weather is always a bonus when kids are involved.

Once we finished up the photos with the kids, they got to do what they do best: run off and play on the playground with their aunt. Meanwhile, I got a few minutes with Kristi and Tyson to get some updated photos of the two of them.

This might be one of my favorite parts of our time together each year. I love photographing the kids and the entire family together, but I’m always so happy when we get those few minutes for just the two of them, too. In the middle of all the activity of family life, it’s nice to slow things down and give mom and dad a chance to get a few updated photos with each other.

Kristi and Tyson, Thank you for another wonderful evening! I love getting to catch up with your crew, hear the latest jokes, and see what everyone is doing. And I’m so glad we got that last bit of warm weather before the temperatures drop. I love getting to see you all, and I’m already looking forward to what the kids have to tell me next time!
