His chin quivers and he lets out a little cry. He is in a new place and thinks he is alone. She picks him up out of his car seat and brings him close. Wrapping him in a blanket and bouncing him as she whispers softly into his ear. She is there and all is well. A mom and and her newborn baby. In this moment they’re in their own little world removed from the chaos all around.
How easy is it to be consumed in all of the daily to-do’s that exist, especially with a newborn? How often we focus on the hard, the exhausting, the multi-tasking, and the fear. I love the quiet moments with newborns where time stops and you’re reminded just how good life is. How even through the hard there is so much beauty and joy. Those moments where you beg time to freeze so you can hold onto it forever. It never does though.
This is why I love getting to photograph new little babes with their families. I love being able to give them permission to not worry about anything and just cozy up and enjoy their new addition. To be able to give them the gift of not only time where their only goal is to relax and enjoy, but to be able to hold those moments forever. This is something I don’t take lightly. The newborn phase is such a small moment in time (though it feels like forever!) and though it never stops, what a blessing it is to be able to look at a photo and feel those feelings again.
Mama, thank you again for letting me step into those quiet moments with you. Thank you for reminding me to enjoy the fleeting moments and ignore the chaos all around. Little man is perfect and knows that all is well when you are around. You’re doing great!
