What started as dark rain clouds and rain quickly gave way to the most beautiful day for Melissa and James’ wedding at the Bountiful Temple. Everyone was beaming with excitement, from the couple themselves to the friends and family who came to celebrate.
Family, Emotion, and a Whole Lot of Love
Throughout the day, there was so much emotion – but in the best way. One moment I’ll never forget was talking with James’ mom. The look in her eyes said everything. Her son had found his perfect match, and she knew it.
During the reception at the Sugarhouse Garden Center, both dads gave heartfelt speeches about love, commitment, and continuing to choose one another for years to come. The brothers kept it short and sweet, but even in just a few words, you could hear the pride and admiration they had for their siblings.
Every guest I spoke with (and there were a lot!) had a story to share about Melissa and James. And almost every single person used the same word: joy. I loved that, because it was the exact word I used to describe them during their engagement session. It felt so fitting – not just for who they are individually, but for the kind of impact they bring as a couple. Even if I hadn’t known them before, I would have known how special they are just by the way people spoke about them.
A Wedding Day Built Together
One of the most touching parts of the day was how both families worked together to bring everything to life. From hair and dessert to the decorations and setup, they all pitched in for Melissa and James. They all knew what their responsibilities were (thanks to a detailed list of the day’s events from Melissa – I love a fellow list maker!) and they made sure their part was taken care of.
I asked several extended family members if they needed anything, because I noticed how busy they’d been taking care of everyone else. Every time, the response was the same:
“That’s what family does. We take care of things for each other.”
And it was clear that they meant it. Even Melissa’s four brothers, who joked that James had to pass a very thorough test, welcomed him with open arms. The day was full of warmth, humor, and deep connection.
A Day Full of Meaning
Some of my favorite memories of the day included the adorable grandmothers who I half-jokingly asked to adopt me, the sweet little kids playing nearby, and the emotional dances during the reception. The father-daughter and mother-son dances were both tear-filled and beautiful.
Melissa and James chose Keane for their first dance (a personal favorite of mine!), and I had to hold back tears again as I photographed their sweet tribute to Melissa’s late mother. Melissa wore her mom’s ring with pride and tucked her necklaces into the pockets of her dress. Yes, her stunning wedding gown had pockets!
A Celebration to Remember
This Bountiful Temple wedding was one of the most love-filled celebrations I’ve had the honor to photograph. Melissa and James are truly two of the best people, surrounded by the most supportive families. It was a day full of beauty, laughter, legacy, and grace – and I’ll never forget it.
